Super Earth is throwing a party, and every Helldiver is invited. Arrowhead Game Studios has kicked off Liberty Day 2026 in Helldivers 2. It is the third run of the in-universe holiday, which falls on October 26 each year. The celebration only lasts a day, and the main reason to take part is a free weapon: the AR-23L Liberator Legacy, a retro take on the game's standard-issue assault rifle. Eligible players get it automatically when the festivities wrap up tonight.
The gift: the AR-23L Liberator Legacy
The Liberator Legacy is this year's Liberty Day present. In the fiction it is modelled on rifles from the First Galactic War, which makes it a nod to where the series began. Arrowhead says it will give modern loadouts a retro look.
The fine print is simple, but worth knowing. The rifle is handed out at the end of Liberty Day, at 23:59 CET on October 26. Europe left summer time on October 25, so that is 22:59 UTC, or 3:59 p.m. Pacific. It goes to every player who has played Helldivers 2 since September 26, 2026. If you have dropped in at any point in the past month, you already qualify. If you haven't, a mission today puts you inside the window, and the studio is telling players to log in and join the celebration to make sure they get it.
Your Super Destroyer gets dressed up for 24 hours
For the full day, the ship lobby changes. Under what the in-game propaganda calls new regulations on holiday ship decorations, every Super Destroyer gets banners, rugs, party supplies and other trimmings. It is cosmetic and temporary, but it is the most visible sign in the game that the event is on, and it disappears once October 26 ends.
The blog post that announced it is written fully in character, with a mock history of Liberty Day and a list of officially approved activities. Those include a mandatory galaxy-wide salute, parades broadcast to ships in orbit, and an orbital bombardment of the Moon involving 15,000 megatons of ordnance. Most of that is satire rather than in-game content, but it shows the tone Arrowhead has kept up since launch.

Community minigames are back
Arrowhead is also bringing back the community minigames it ran for earlier Liberty Days. Most of them run on the official Helldivers 2 Discord server rather than inside the game:
- Minidivers: players type stratagem codes as emoji in chat, working together to hold off waves of enemies. Discord only.
- Adopt-a-SEAF: you get your own SEAF trooper, which the post calls a "blueberry", to look after and send on missions.
- Oath of Enlistment: take the oath and get a copy to keep. Discord only.
- Raise the Flag: salute in chat to raise the flag as a group. Discord only.
There is also a downloadable Liberty Day Party Pack for players who want to celebrate away from the screen. It has games, decorations, recipes and printable Helldiver helmets, and the download is linked from the official PlayStation Blog post.
Super Merch Store rewards, and new collectibles
The Helldivers 2 Super Merch Store is adding Liberty Day items today. The store's achievement unlocks also run until February 28, 2027. Reach level 100 and earn the Hell Commander title to unlock the Hell Commander Pin. Complete 75 missions to unlock the Private Teddy Snuggles Plush. Both are limited to one per player, and orders are open until March 31, 2027. The plush cannot currently ship to Japan.

Outside the game, there are two new licensed collectibles. Displate has released the Helldivers 2 Display Shards, a limited set of six metal collectibles with art based on the game, alongside a range of Liberty Day metal posters. FiGGYZ will open pre-orders on November 20 for a limited, individually numbered box set. It contains four magnetic pixel-art figures: a Quick Draw Helldiver, a Flagbearer Helldiver, a Hulk and a Devastator.
How to join in
Helldivers 2 is available on PS5, PC and Xbox Series X|S. On PlayStation it is also in the PlayStation Plus Extra Game Catalog, so subscribers can play today at no extra cost and pick up the rifle. Whatever platform you play on, the key point is the same. Play at least one session between September 26 and the end of today, and the AR-23L Liberator Legacy will be in your armoury after the 22:59 UTC cutoff.

Liberty Day is a small event in Helldivers 2's busy schedule of warbonds and updates. Even so, a free weapon that only needs one login is one of the easier wins of the year, and the decorated ships are gone tomorrow. If you have been away from the Galactic War, today is a good day to drop back in.
