PEAK, the co-op climbing game that turned a one-month game jam into one of PC's breakout hits of 2025, is leaving Steam exclusivity behind. Team PEAK, the joint banner of Aggro Crab and Landfall, has confirmed that the game launches on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 on October 22, with crossplay across every platform from day one. A physical PS5 edition is on the way too, and pre-orders for it are already open.
When it goes live
The studios say the console release and the accompanying PC update will go live together at 8 AM Pacific Time on October 22. That works out to 11 AM Eastern, 4 PM in the UK and 5 PM across most of central Europe, with players in Asia and Oceania getting it late at night or on the morning of October 23. The same update carries a batch of general fixes for the existing PC version, and the team has said full patch notes will follow next week.
The headline feature is crossplay. PEAK has always been built around groups of up to four scouts, and the console launch keeps that structure intact: a PS5 player can rope up with friends on Xbox, Switch 2 or Steam in the same expedition. For a game whose entire hook is getting your friends up a mountain alive, or watching them fail, a shared player pool across every platform is the most important thing this port could deliver.
What PEAK actually is
For anyone who missed it on PC, PEAK casts you as one of a troop of lost nature scouts stranded on a mysterious island after a plane crash. The only way to be rescued is to reach the summit of the mountain at its centre. You can attempt it solo, but the game is designed around co-operation: one climber's mistake can doom the whole group, and the cleanest routes often depend on someone else holding a rope, sharing food or hauling a teammate back up.

Survival pressure comes from every direction. Hunger drains your reserves, so you scavenge for food of very questionable quality along the way. Injuries pile up as you fall, get bitten or get caught out by the elements, and every setback eats into your maximum stamina, which in turn makes every subsequent climb harder. The climb itself is physical and manual: you grab, haul and cling to the rock face, and it is very easy to let go at exactly the wrong moment.
Four biomes, plenty of ways to die
The route to the top passes through four biomes, each with its own set of threats. Team PEAK lists tornadoes, poison clouds, birds and zombies among the hazards waiting for scouts on the way up, and the island's layout shifts so that memorising one route will not carry you through every expedition. Since launch the game has also grown considerably, with named content drops including The Roots and The Mesa updates adding new terrain and items.

The console versions are not a cut-down snapshot of the original release. According to the developers, the PS5 build includes every content update, biome and item PEAK has received since it first launched on PC, so console players start with the game in its current form rather than catching up update by update. That also covers custom runs, which let a troop dial the challenge up or down. In the developers' words, that includes the option to physically kick your friends, if your group is that way inclined.
A physical PS5 edition with Skybound
Alongside the digital release, Team PEAK is partnering with Skybound Games on a boxed PS5 version. The physical edition includes a disc with the base game, a buddy code so a second player can join in, and a printed scout passport complete with stickers for customising your character in real life. Pre-orders are open now, but the studios are clear that the physical copy will not ship until later this year, so anyone who wants to climb on October 22 will need to buy digitally.
The buddy code is a sensible touch for a game like this. PEAK is at its best with a full troop, and bundling a way to bring a friend along lowers the barrier for anyone who picks up a copy on their own.
From a Seoul game jam to every platform
PEAK's origin story is a big part of its charm. Aggro Crab, the Seattle studio behind Another Crab's Treasure and Going Under, and Landfall, the Stockholm team behind Content Warning, Haste, Totally Accurate Battle Simulator and Stick Fight: The Game, became friends after meeting at a developer conference in 2022. In February 2025, three Aggro Crab developers and four from Landfall rented an apartment in Seoul and built the first version of PEAK during a month-long game jam. The two teams then reunited in Sweden in June 2025 to finish it, and the game launched on Steam on June 16 that year.

The developers describe friendship as the core of the project, both in how it was made and how it plays, and the game's central rule is that you never abandon a friend in need. Opening the climb to PlayStation, Xbox and Switch 2 players, with all of them able to share a rope, is the logical next step for a game built on that idea.
The bottom line
PEAK arrives on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2 on October 22 at 8 AM PT, with full crossplay and every post-launch update included. The boxed PS5 edition from Skybound is up for pre-order now and ships later in the year. If your group has been waiting for a console version to finally see what the fuss was about, the mountain opens next week.
