Sony is bringing back see-through PlayStation hardware. The new Prism Collection puts transparent shells on the DualSense wireless controller and on matching PS5 console covers, in three colours: Flare Orange, Emerald Green and Graphite Gray. Pre-orders open on November 10, 2026, and the collection launches starting February 4, 2027. The controllers carry a recommended price of $84.99, and the console covers $74.99.
Three colours, one clear idea
The collection is built around a single design goal: let players see inside the hardware. Each piece is finished in a high-gloss clear plastic, and on the DualSense that transparency continues all the way across the back of the controller, so the internal structure that drives haptics, triggers and the touch pad is visible from both sides. The centre section of the controller keeps a metallic finish rather than going fully clear, which ties the two surfaces together and keeps the pad from looking like a hollow shell.
PlayStation's Color, Material and Finish team, represented in the announcement by designers Leo Cardoso and Satoshi Aoyagi, framed the line as a modern answer to the transparent hardware craze of the late 1990s, which ran from translucent controllers to see-through handhelds and desktop computers. The intent, as Sony puts it, is a look that nods to that era while still matching the industrial lines of the PS5 generation.

Flare Orange
Flare Orange is the loudest of the three. It is a saturated, vivid shell, and according to the design team it shifts slightly toward a rosy hue in the places where layers of the transparent material sit on top of each other, such as around the grips and the face buttons. The face buttons, D-pad and thumbsticks are tinted to match, so the controller reads as a single block of colour rather than a clear shell with standard black or white parts.
It is also the colourway most obviously aimed at people who want their setup to stand out on a shelf or under a desk lamp. Paired with the matching console cover, it turns the PS5's side panels into a single bright orange slab with the console's internals faintly visible underneath.
Emerald Green
Emerald Green is described as a deep hunter green, and it is the one where the transparency does the most visible work. Because the tint is darker, the internal frame and circuit-board shapes inside the grips show up as layered shadows, giving the controller a sense of depth that a flat colour would not. The touch pad keeps a patterned surface beneath the clear top layer, which is visible in all three colourways but especially striking against the green.

Graphite Gray
Graphite Gray is the restrained option, a cool, storm-toned grey that Sony pitches as the refined choice of the set. It sits closest to the PS5's existing black-and-white look, and is likely to be the easiest of the three to drop into an established setup without the rest of the room having to match it. The metallic centre section is especially noticeable here, contrasting with the smoky clear plastic around it.
All three colourways share the same glossy, premium-sheen finish, so the difference between them is purely the tint. There is no mention of any change to the DualSense's hardware itself; these are the standard controller's features in a new shell.

Price and where to buy
The Prism Collection DualSense controllers will be sold globally. Sony's recommended prices are $84.99 in the US, €84.99 in Europe, £74.99 in the UK and ¥12,480 in Japan, including tax. Retailer prices may vary.
The matching PS5 console covers cost $74.99, €74.99, £64.99 or ¥9,980. They are the more limited of the two products: Sony says the covers will be sold exclusively through its own direct store in the regions where it operates one, and only in limited quantities through select retailers elsewhere. If you want the full matching set, the direct store is the safest route.
Pre-order dates and launch
Pre-orders begin on November 10, 2026. In the US, they open at 7:00am PT / 10:00am ET on direct.playstation.com. In the UK, France, Germany, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg, they open at 10:00am local time on PlayStation's own hardware store. Participating retailers will also take pre-orders from the same day.
The collection launches starting February 4, 2027, though Sony notes that exact launch dates and availability may vary by country and region. That leaves the Prism Collection just outside the holiday window, so anyone hoping to wrap one up this year will be giving a pre-order rather than a controller.
Why it matters
Transparent controllers have long been a favourite with collectors, and limited clear editions from past console generations still command strong prices on the resale market. By offering three colours at launch, plus covers that turn the whole console transparent-looking, Sony is treating this as a full line rather than a one-off special edition. With the covers restricted mainly to PlayStation's direct store, expect those to be the harder part of the set to get hold of on November 10.
