RGG Studio is never short on surprises, but its Summer Game Fest trailer for Stranger Than Heaven may be the headline of the weekend. SEGA revealed that the late Tupac Shakur will appear in the game as a character named Amaru, alongside a star-studded cast and a firm January 15, 2027 launch.
Crucially, RGG is handling the integration with care. Tupac's portrayal of Amaru is made possible with the permission and ongoing supervision of his estate, Amaru Entertainment, and the studio stresses it was crafted without the use of AI — his character design built from archival footage and photographs in close collaboration with the estate.
A deep bench of talent
He's far from the only big name. The trailer revealed a cast including Takashi Ukaji, Yasukaze Motomiya, RGG mainstay Takaya Kuroda, and Kohei Tsuji. On the music side, Snoop Dogg is contributing to the game's theme song, with Satoshi Fujihara, Ado and Tori Kelly also lending their talents — several of them portraying characters in the game.
A new saga from the Like a Dragon team
Stranger Than Heaven is RGG Studio's ambitious new period drama, and this cast reveal cements its blockbuster aspirations. With its January 15, 2027 release date now locked in, the studio behind Like a Dragon looks ready to deliver one of early 2027's most distinctive games.
