The first wave of Xbox Game Pass's May 2026 lineup is now fully live, and it's stacked with day-one launches that hit the service across the past week. Six games landed between May 7 and May 14 - Mixtape, Outbound, Black Jacket, Call of the Elder Gods, Elite Dangerous, and Subnautica 2 - and they cover an unusually wide range, from a 90s coming-of-age narrative adventure to a four-player co-op underwater survival sandbox. Forza Horizon 6 closes out the wave with its May 19 Day One launch.
Microsoft pre-flighted the lineup at the start of the month on Xbox Wire, but with every title other than Forza Horizon 6 now playable, it's worth running through what each one actually is, who made it, and whether it's worth pulling down on your first free evening in front of the console.
Subnautica 2 (Game Preview) - May 14, Day One
Unknown Worlds' Early Access sequel is the marquee title in the wave. It cleared a million sales and peaked at 467,582 concurrent Steam players in its first day, and it's playable on Game Pass via Cloud, Xbox Series X|S, Handheld, and PC. The headline addition over the original is four-player online co-op - the first time the series has supported squads in the depths - on an all-new alien ocean planet with bigger biomes and a fresh base-building toolkit. It's flagged Game Preview, which on Game Pass means the version you're playing is still in active development; Unknown Worlds has committed to a roadmap that runs two to three years before 1.0.

Mixtape - May 7, Day One
Annapurna Interactive's narrative adventure was the wave's opener, developed by Beethoven and Dinosaur (the team behind The Artful Escape). Three friends, one last night together before they leave their hometown, and a cassette mixtape that frames the entire story as a series of vignettes set to the songs on the tape. The soundtrack is the real flex - DEVO, Roxy Music, Lush, The Smashing Pumpkins, Iggy Pop, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Joy Division, and The Cure all appear with licensed tracks. Strong reviews out of the gate, and the under-six-hour runtime makes it easy to finish in two sittings.

Outbound - May 11, Day One
Square Glade Games' cozy van-life open-world sandbox. You build out a solar/wind/water-powered electric camper, drive across a hand-crafted continent of forests, coastal roads, and small towns, and pull off the road when you want to fix the van, cook, or just watch the sun set. The modular building system means you can turn an empty van into a multi-room mobile base, and the whole thing supports four-player online co-op for road-trip squads. Quiet, optionally social, and one of the lower-stress Game Pass additions in months.

Black Jacket - May 12, Day One
From Austrian studio Mi'pu'mi Games and publisher Skystone, Black Jacket is a roguelite deck-builder that swaps Balatro's poker frame for blackjack. Your soul is trapped in the underworld, you sit down across from the Ferryman, and you cheat, stack, and combo your way past damned souls to earn your freedom back. Stylish art, short runs, and the kind of mechanical depth that makes a good Steam Deck commute game - the game is already Steam Deck Verified with an 89% positive review score on Steam. Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass on Cloud, Xbox Series X|S, Handheld, and PC.

Call of the Elder Gods - May 12, Day One
Out of the Blue's long-awaited sequel to 2020's Call of the Sea, published by Kwalee. You play Professor Harry Everhart and student Evangeline Drayton investigating an artifact tied to dreams and visions, with the story leaning hard into Lovecraft's The Shadow Out of Time. Unreal Engine 5 puzzle adventure with a heavier focus on atmosphere than action - if you liked the first game's slow-burn pacing, the sequel keeps the formula and pushes the visuals harder. Live on Cloud, Xbox Series X|S, Handheld, and PC for Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.

Elite Dangerous - May 12, Returning to the Catalog
Frontier Developments' space sim returns to Game Pass for Ultimate and Premium subscribers on Cloud and Console. There's an important caveat: the console build is the version Frontier stopped updating in 2022, so it does not include Odyssey or any post-2022 expansion content. The 1:1 Milky Way is still there, the core flight loop is still elite, and there's an active console community - but if you have a PC, that's where the live version of the game lives. Treat the Game Pass addition as a starting point, not a complete experience.

Coming Next: Forza Horizon 6
The wave isn't done. Forza Horizon 6 drops Day One on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass on May 19 with 550+ cars and a Japan-set open world that's already pulling 92 Metacritic scores from reviewers with embargo copies. That's the headline launch for May - but with six titles already live, the wave is one of the deepest Game Pass months Microsoft has run in 2026.
