Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced gets its last big content drop today. Ubisoft says Title Update 1.0.8 goes live on October 27 at 14:00 UTC (10:00 AM ET, 7:00 AM PT) on every platform. It adds two features players have been asking about since the remake launched in July: a full New Game+ mode and a new top difficulty called Nightmare. Ubisoft is calling this the final major content update. After it, the team plans only quality-of-life patches over the coming months.
New Game+ lets you run the Caribbean five more times
New Game+ restarts Edward Kenway's story from the beginning and lets you keep almost everything you earned. Edward's tools, upgrades, unlocked weapons and trinkets carry over. So do all of the Jackdaw's upgrades, every unlocked officer ability and pet, all of your money, materials and trade goods, every customisable outfit, your hideout progress and perks, your art collection, the Kenway fleet, codex entries including treasure maps, and anything you bought from the store.
A few things don't carry over. Quest items are removed. Your officers stay unlocked, but they are not physically on board, so you have to recruit them again. The map's fog also resets, which means every fort has to be captured again. Since the forts are what reveal the map in the first place, that brings back a big part of the early exploration loop, even with a fully upgraded ship.

Each run gets harder, and there's a new currency
New Game+ doesn't just repeat the same game. Every time you start another cycle, the seas get more dangerous: Elite Soldiers turn up more often and max-rank ships start patrolling. You can stack it up to New Game+++++, five extra playthroughs on top of the first.
The mode also brings its own currency, Escudos. You earn them by completing challenges and by looting chests you have already opened, and you can trade Reales for Escudos at the General Store. Escudos buy outfits and items that are exclusive to New Game+. Ubisoft says nothing already sold for Reales changes: the same vendors keep the same prices, so the new currency adds to the store rather than replacing it.
Nightmare Mode removes the safety nets
The second headline feature is Nightmare, a new setting that sits above Hard in the game's difficulty tuning menu. Like the existing levels, you set it separately for combat, stealth, naval combat and activities, so you can make one part of the game brutal and leave the rest alone.

In ground combat, enemies deal 1.8 times as much damage, the parry window is shorter, and the white glint that warns you an attack is coming is gone. Ranged enemies also fire more often. The biggest change is that the one-shot safety is disabled: the game normally stops a single hit from killing you outright when your health is high, and on Nightmare it doesn't. Ubisoft warns that a bullet or an explosive can now end a fight instantly, however healthy Edward is.
Stealth is harsher as well. Guards spot you much faster and keep searching for longer. They can hear you whenever you move faster than a walk. High hiding spots now only work if Edward is at least 6 metres above an enemy, up from 4.
Harder seas, and harder still below them
At sea, Nightmare raises the damage from every ship. Underwater and in the side activities, sharks hit harder, urchins and jellyfish do double damage, your oxygen runs out faster, and every animal you can harpoon fights back harder. Diving for wrecks, which used to be a fairly relaxed break between naval battles, now needs real attention.

Classic takedowns, hidden chests and cosmetics
The update also brings back takedown animations from the 2013 original, covering hidden blade, unarmed, single sword and gunblade takedowns. There is a new batch of cosmetics, including outfits, pet skins and trinkets, which you collect by playing New Game+. Ubisoft has also hidden new community chests, some holding rewards fans asked for, and says it is deliberately giving no hints this time.
Bug fixes and download sizes
The patch also carries a long list of fixes. The game can now launch in Offline Mode after losing its server connection mid-session. A freeze in the tavern board games (Nine-Man Morris, Checkers and Fanorona) is fixed, as is a camera field-of-view problem after the Delirium effect, and the Jackdaw no longer sometimes looks damaged after you repair it. Deluxe Edition owners will now see their Blackbeard items marked as owned in the Exchange. Quest fixes cover soft locks and disappearing objectives in This Tyro Captain, The Traveling Salesman and We Demand a Parley. Storms also produce more rogue waves.
The download is 15.5 GB on Xbox Series X|S, 4.5 GB on PS5, 4.3 GB on PC and 2.1 GB for the Steam version. If you have been holding a finished save until Black Flag Resynced gave you a reason to go back, today is that update, and it is also the last major one.
