Arc System Works is bringing BlazBlue Centralfiction to PlayStation 5. The publisher announced the port on October 10, and the headline features go well beyond a straight re-release: the PS5 version will ship with rollback netcode and cross-play with the Steam version on PC. There is no release date or price yet.
What the PS5 version adds
Arc System Works listed four additions for the new version. The first two matter most to anyone who plays online. Rollback netcode hides network delay by predicting your opponent's inputs and quietly correcting the game state when the real inputs arrive, instead of pausing everything to wait for them. Cross-play with PC joins two player pools that have been kept apart until now.
The other two additions are smaller but welcome. The PS5 version adds four new text languages. Arc System Works hasn't said which ones yet. It also gets new Training Mode features, again not yet detailed. Training Mode is where fighting game players spend most of their time learning combos and practising set-ups, so even modest upgrades there tend to matter more than they sound.

Why rollback on console is the real news
Centralfiction already has rollback on PC. Arc System Works added it to the Steam version in early 2022, alongside a similar update for BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle, as part of a wider push to bring its older fighters up to modern online standards. Until now, PlayStation players were stuck with the old delay-based code on PS4, and that code struggles badly once a connection is less than ideal.
A PS5 build with rollback gives console players a modern online version of the game for the first time. Cross-play adds the Steam community on top of that. For a fighting game that came out in arcades in 2015, the size of the online player pool now decides whether there is anyone to play against at 2am. Merging PC and PS5 players is the most effective thing Arc System Works can do to keep matchmaking alive.
The announcement only mentions PS5–PC cross-play. It doesn't mention the existing PS4 or Switch versions, so don't assume those players will share lobbies with the new build until Arc System Works says so.

Trinity Glassfille is still on the way
The PS5 news lands on top of something Centralfiction players were already waiting for. In June, Arc System Works teased a new playable character for the game, its first in years. It then revealed her at EVO 2026 in Las Vegas, before the BlazBlue Centralfiction top 8: Trinity Glassfille, the Platinum Alchemist. She is one of the Six Heroes who defeated the Black Beast in the series' backstory and a key figure in the story since the early games. Series creator Toshimichi Mori drew her reveal illustration.
Trinity was announced for the PS4 and Steam versions. Arc System Works now says her release is separate from the PS5 version and the language update, and that she will arrive after the PS5 version launches. It hasn't given a date for her either, so the order is fixed but the timing isn't.

A long life for a 2015 fighter
Centralfiction launched in Japanese arcades in 2015, followed by PS4 and PS3 in 2016. A PC version arrived on Steam in 2017, and a Special Edition came to Switch in 2020. Most fighting games are long retired at this point in their lives. Instead, this one is getting a new platform, a netcode overhaul on that platform, cross-play, more languages and a brand-new character within a few months of each other.
That pattern fits Arc System Works' recent approach to its back catalogue. Rather than leave older games to fade, it keeps putting new life into the communities that still play them. Centralfiction has stayed on the EVO line-up for exactly that reason. Its players never left, and a modern console version gives new players an easier way in.
What we still don't know
The open questions are straightforward: the release date, the price, and whether PS4 owners get any kind of upgrade path to the PS5 version. We also don't know which four languages are being added, what the Training Mode changes are, and when Trinity Glassfille follows. Arc System Works hasn't answered any of them yet. Because Trinity is now tied to the PS5 launch, a date for one should give a good idea of when to expect the other.
