Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation 3 Announced for PS5 and PC, With On-Foot Combat and a Network Test in November

Bandai Namco's free-to-play Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation 3 is coming to PS5 and PC with cross-play, on-foot infantry play and series from UC and SEED, with a Japan network test on November 20 and 22.

Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation 3 Announced for PS5 and PC, With On-Foot Combat and a Network Test in November

Bandai Namco has announced Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation 3, the next entry in its long-running free-to-play team combat series. Developed by Bandai Namco Forge Digitals, it is coming to PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam with cross-play between the two platforms. There is no release date yet, but the first network test is already on the calendar: a Japan-only cross-play test on November 20 and 22, with a wider open network test promised after that.

What Battle Operation 3 is

The Battle Operation games are online team shooters where you pilot mobile suits from across Gundam's history in large, objective-driven matches. Where most Gundam action games put you in a single hero machine, Battle Operation is about squads: who brings long-range firepower, who closes the distance, and who holds the line. Bandai Namco's description of the third game keeps that core intact. You enlist as a mercenary, take legendary mobile suits into battle and fight alongside other players to take control of the map.

The publisher says team composition can make all the difference, and each suit's arsenal is built around a balance of ranged weapons, close-quarters combat and unique skills. That points to the same role-driven structure the series is known for, where knowing which machine your team actually needs matters as much as aim.

Squad play is the heart of the series, and this shot of a GM formation in mid-air shows the scale Bandai Namco is aiming for.

Getting out of the cockpit

The most interesting new detail is on-foot play. Bandai Namco says victory often hinges on infantry operations, and pilots can now leave their mobile suit to plant bombs on enemy bases, call in support fire and secure key objectives on foot. That gives a downed or repositioning player something meaningful to do on the ground, and it adds a second layer to every fight: a pilot sneaking toward your base can be as dangerous as an enemy Zaku on the horizon.

How that infantry layer is balanced against towering machines is the big open question, and it is exactly the kind of thing a network test is designed to answer.

Which Gundam series are in it

At launch, the roster draws on both of Gundam's big branches. From the Universal Century timeline, Bandai Namco has confirmed the original Mobile Suit Gundam, The 08th MS Team and Stardust Memory (Mobile Suit Gundam 0083). From the Alternative side, Mobile Suit Gundam SEED is in. The publisher also plans to add two or three more Alternative series during the first year after release, so the lineup is clearly meant to grow over time, as you would expect from a free-to-play live game.

The 08th MS Team and 0083 are natural fits for Battle Operation's grounded, military tone, with their mass-produced suits, ground battles and gritty wartime setting. SEED brings a more colourful, high-tech style, and it will be interesting to see how its machines are balanced against One Year War hardware.

Base Camp and presentation

Between matches, players gather in Base Camp, a shared hub where you can meet other mercenaries from around the world before heading out on your next sortie. Bandai Namco is also pitching a clear visual step up, promising cinematic scale, realistic environmental effects and highly detailed mobile suit models. The first screenshots back that up, with heavy weathering on the armour and big dramatic skies over desert and city battlefields.

The game will be playable in English, Japanese, Korean, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese, which signals a global launch rather than a Japan-first release.

Network test dates

The first chance to play is a cross-play network test limited to Japan. It runs on November 20 and November 22, each day split into three sessions: 09:00 to 12:00, 15:00 to 18:00 and 21:00 to 24:00, Japan time. Bandai Namco says an open network test for more players will follow, though it has not dated that yet.

If you want to follow the game, the Steam store page is already live and can be wishlisted now. Release timing, monetisation details and the full launch roster of mobile suits are still to be announced.
