One of the most requested ports in the series' history is finally happening. Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 arrives August 27 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2 — and its headline act is Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, escaping its PlayStation 3 confinement for the very first time in nearly two decades.
Since its 2008 release, MGS4 has been locked to Sony's notoriously hard-to-emulate PS3 hardware, making it the one mainline entry that modern audiences simply couldn't play. Konami's collection brings it to current platforms with enhanced resolutions, smoother frame rates, and modernized controls.
What's in the box
Alongside MGS4, Vol. 2 packs in Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker — based on the HD Collection version, complete with its up-to-six-player co-op — and the Game Boy Color spin-off Metal Gear: Ghost Babel as bonus content. It's a set that spans the timeline from Big Boss's Peace Walker era to Solid Snake's final mission.
Konami is rounding out the package with the now-familiar Master Collection extras: a Screenplay Book and Master Book detailing story and characters, a digital soundtrack, and a sprawling database covering the lore from the original Metal Gear all the way through Guns of the Patriots.
For long-time fans, this is the collection that finally makes Kojima's PS3-era swan song accessible to everyone — and for newcomers who only know Snake from memes and Smash Bros., it's the easiest on-ramp yet into one of gaming's most storied stealth sagas. Master Collection Vol. 2 launches August 27.
