Capcom used its Nintendo Direct slot on September 9 to close one of the last gaps in the Switch 2 library. The Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 4 remakes are all coming to Nintendo's console, and they are not far off.
Per Capcom's own trailer notes, the digital versions arrive on October 16, 2026, with physical releases following on January 29, 2027. All three are native Switch 2 ports rather than cloud versions.
Which editions you are getting
The lineup is Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition. The Deluxe and Gold packages carry a wealth of additional content from the original releases, so the previously released DLC for RE2 and RE4 is bundled in rather than sold separately - which matters most for RE4, where the Separate Ways campaign is a substantial chunk of game.
Capcom's framing is that each title has been reimagined with fresh ideas and modernised gameplay via RE ENGINE - the same line the company has used since 2019, and still an accurate one. These are not remasters of the 1998-2005 originals; they are the ground-up rebuilds that reset what a Resident Evil game looks like.
The full set, finally
The genuinely notable part is what the October release completes. Once these three land, every mainline Resident Evil game is playable on Switch 2 - including the recently released Resident Evil Requiem and the upcoming Resident Evil Veronica, the Code: Veronica remake Capcom revealed at Summer Game Fest and scheduled for 2027.
It is also the first time Nintendo players get the 2023 Resident Evil 4 remake at all. The Switch generation missed it entirely; the cloud versions of RE2 and RE7 on the original Switch were a compromise nobody loved. Native ports of all three on Switch 2 hardware is a materially different proposition.
What each one is, briefly
Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition follows Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield through the unprecedented biological disaster that strikes Raccoon City - the RPD station, the sewers, and Mr. X following you through all of it.
Resident Evil 3 is told from Jill Valentine's perspective and covers both the beginning and the end of the Raccoon City incident, with Nemesis as the pursuer. It is the shortest of the three by some distance and the most divisive among fans, but it also ships with the most immediately readable action.
Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition jumps forward six years to Leon as a government agent sent to rural Spain to recover the president's daughter. It is the one that reinvented third-person action in 2005 and then did it again in 2023, and it is the strongest argument in the bundle.
Pre-orders and the physical wait
Pre-orders are open now, with early adopter discounts available. The three-and-a-half month gap between the digital launch and the physical carts is the awkward part - anyone who wants boxed copies is waiting until the end of January while everyone else plays in October.
Capcom has not detailed performance targets, resolution modes, or whether the Switch 2 versions carry any exclusive features. Given the company shipped Resident Evil Requiem on the hardware already, the engine work is presumably done.
