Star Fox is barely three weeks from its June 25 debut on Nintendo Switch 2, and Nintendo is making sure nobody climbs into the cockpit unprepared. The company today released a seven-minute overview trailer for its cinematic remake of the N64 classic, walking through the revamped campaign, the new two-player Pilot-and-Gunner co-op, post-campaign challenges and the 4-vs-4 Battle Mode — with fresh footage tucked in along the way, including a closer look at the special power-ups in multiplayer dogfights.
One Pilot, One Gunner
Campaign Mode once again scrambles Fox McCloud and his mercenary team after the maniacal scientist Andross throws the Lylat System into chaos with a surprise attack. Missions branch depending on what you do mid-flight, so uncovering every corner of the story means replaying routes and chasing alternate paths — now with fully voiced dialogue, an orchestral soundtrack and a complete visual overhaul of every stage. Easy, Normal and Expert difficulties are available from the start.
The whole campaign supports co-op, splitting duties between a Pilot and a Gunner either locally or online — and thanks to GameShare, the second player doesn’t even need their own copy. Flying solo, you can opt into Mouse-Controlled Targeting with the Joy-Con 2 controller for more precise aiming while the Arwing handles barrel rolls, somersaults, mid-air braking and boosts. The Landmaster tank and Blue-Marine submarine round out the vehicle roster, just as they did in 1997.
Challenge Mode and 4-vs-4 dogfights
Clearing a campaign stage unlocks it in Challenge Mode, which layers new objectives over familiar routes for score-chasers. Battle Mode, meanwhile, pits two squads of four against each other across three stages, online or locally, with optional USB camera support putting player avatars and AR filters over the action via GameChat. The overview trailer offers the best look yet at the mode’s special power-ups, which can swing a dogfight in seconds.
Star Fox lands on Nintendo Music
Alongside the trailer, Nintendo added ten Star Fox tracks to its Nintendo Music app, where the new My Mix feature can build a playlist from your play history. A free demo covering the game’s prologue mission remains available on the eShop, and Nintendo has confirmed a day-one update will accompany the launch. Star Fox arrives exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 on June 25, 2026.
