Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun Boom has a firm release date: August 26, on iOS and Android. And the part that will decide whether anyone cares is right there in the store listing - it is a premium game with no ads, no energy meter, and no in-app purchases.

Boltgun Boom is Nitro Games' mobile adaptation of Auroch Digital's 2023 boomer shooter, made under license from Games Workshop. It was revealed at Warhammer Skulls in May with a vague 2026 window; pre-registration opened at the same time on both stores, and the App Store listing now pins the launch to August 26.

What it actually is

You play Malum Caedo, an Ultramarine with a bolter and a total absence of interest in cover mechanics. The original Boltgun's trick was rendering the 41st millennium as a 1993 shooter - pixel-art sprites over 3D geometry, no reloading animations to slow you down, movement speed that would embarrass most modern FPS protagonists - and the mobile version keeps that intact rather than sanding it down.

The listing describes a large single-player campaign across multiple worlds, which lines up with reporting that the mobile release bundles content from more than one chapter of the Boltgun line rather than shipping the base campaign alone. At 3.4GB on iOS, it is not a trimmed-down port.

The monetisation is the news

Licensed Warhammer games on phones have a well-earned reputation, and it is mostly built on gacha mechanics, timers and aggressive battle passes. Boltgun Boom going premium - one purchase, no ads, no energy - is a deliberate rejection of that, and it is the reason this release is worth flagging at all.

The pricing is not public yet; the store listings show pre-registration rather than a pre-order price, so the number should land closer to launch. Nitro Games has also confirmed full external controller support alongside the touch-optimised control scheme, which matters a great deal for a shooter built around strafing at speed. Virtual sticks and a boltgun that fires as fast as this one does are not natural companions.

Worth watching for

The obvious risk is the one every mobile FPS port faces: a game whose entire appeal is fast, precise movement, running on a device with no buttons. Nitro Games has said the control systems were rebuilt for touch rather than mapped onto it, and the controller option gives anyone unconvinced by that an escape hatch.

The obvious upside is that a full-fat, ad-free, premium 40K shooter for phones is not something that shows up often. If the controls hold together, this is one of the more interesting mobile releases of the month.

Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun Boom launches August 26, 2026 on iOS (17.0 and up) and Android. Pre-registration is live on the App Store and Google Play.
