TT Games is back with its biggest project since LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, and this time the focus is squarely on Gotham City. LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight launches on May 22 — bumped up a full week from its original May 29 date — bringing an open-world LEGO Gotham packed with hard-hitting combat, puzzle-solving, and enough rogues gallery representation to satisfy any Batman fan.
An Origin Story With Open-World Ambitions
The game follows Bruce Wayne’s full arc from training with the League of Shadows to becoming the Dark Knight, forging alliances with allies like Jim Gordon, Batgirl, Nightwing, Robin, Catwoman, and Talia al Ghul along the way. Each of the seven playable characters brings unique skills and gadgets to the table, and TT Games has been transparent about drawing combat inspiration from the Arkham series — a bold move for a LEGO title, but one that could give the gameplay a weight that previous entries sometimes lacked.
Gotham itself is split across four distinct islands, featuring iconic locations like Ace Chemicals, Gotham Botanical Gardens, Wayne Tower, and Arkham Asylum. Between story missions, players can glide and drive through the city, stopping crimes, solving environmental puzzles, and collecting the kind of brick-based rewards that LEGO games have turned into an art form. The open world isn’t just window dressing — it’s designed to feel like a living, breathing LEGO interpretation of Nolan-era Gotham with its own sense of atmosphere.
A Villain Roster That Goes Deep
On the villain side, TT Games isn’t holding back. The Joker, Penguin, Poison Ivy, Ra’s al Ghul, Bane, Two-Face, Mr. Freeze, Firefly, the Riddler, and even the Condiment King and Egghead all make appearances. A post-launch Mayhem Collection DLC, slated for September 2026, will add the Joker and Harley Quinn as playable characters alongside a new story mission set during an Arkham Asylum breakout.
The Deluxe Edition offers 72-hour early access starting May 19, which means eager players could be patrolling Gotham before the month’s halfway mark. With the game arriving on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, this is TT Games staking its claim as the studio that can still make LEGO games feel fresh — and this time, they’re betting the Batcave on it.
After The Skywalker Saga proved that TT Games could evolve the LEGO formula, Legacy of the Dark Knight feels like the logical next step. Whether the Arkham-inspired combat and four-island open world can deliver on the ambition remains to be seen, but early previews suggest this could be the definitive LEGO Batman experience.
