Star Wars Zero Company Wants to Be the Clone Wars XCOM

Star Wars Zero Company, an XCOM-style turn-based tactics game from ex-Firaxis developers at Bit Reactor, launches August 27 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Set in the twilight of the Clone Wars, it puts you in command of an elite mixed squad of clones, Jedi and mercenaries, with a bond system that rewards keeping a core team together.

Star Wars Zero Company is shaping up to be the Clone Wars strategy game that turn-based tactics fans have been waiting for. Developed by Bit Reactor - a studio staffed with veterans of Firaxis' XCOM series - in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games and published by EA, it is a single-player, squad-based tactics game arriving August 27, 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Set in the twilight of the Clone Wars, it casts you as Hawks, a former Republic officer assembling an off-the-books unit - the titular Zero Company - to hunt down a dangerous Separatist-aligned threat. Your squad is drawn from across the galaxy's factions: clone troopers, Jedi, Mandalorians, droids and mercenaries fighting side by side.

If you have played XCOM, the fundamentals will feel familiar: an isometric battlefield, cover, action points, flanking and high-stakes single-player missions where positioning is everything. Zero Company adds its own twist through a bond system - squadmates who fight together build relationships that unlock combined abilities, encouraging you to keep a consistent core team rather than treating soldiers as disposable.

A Gritty, Character-Driven Story

The latest gameplay trailer leans hard into a grittier, boots-on-the-ground take on the era, with a customisable commander, squad loadouts and an original cast of new and returning Clone Wars characters. It is a notably story-focused pitch for a tactics game - less about randomised skirmishes and more about a bespoke campaign with its own cast to get attached to.
